Special Mommy Time

Today was a very different Friday for us, so I wanted to write about it before I get busy and forget. I ended up getting to spend an entire day with my oldest son, Jadon, without the other kids around, or as we like to call it "Special Mommy/Jadon Time." The funny thing is I originally didn't plan it that way. I had asked my mom if she could take Kailey and Reece because Reece had been wanting to spend the night, and I needed some time to get some of my work done for my graphic design business. So when it dawned on me that Jeremy was also going to be working on Friday, I realized I should plan a special day for me and Jadon. So Thursday I stayed up late getting a lot of my work done so that we could have a fun day together. (One of the joys of homeschooling is I didn't have to worry about taking him out of school.)

Our day started off with a homeschool event where our homeschool group had rented out the Pump It Up place and we got to play at an indoor place with nothing but bounce houses for a couple of hours. Jadon got to spend time jumping and playing with at least 8 other boys his age, so that was a lot of fun.

Then we headed off to make some deliveries for my business. For those who don't know, as part of my business I help clients get things designed and printed and then I deliver these things to them. Well one of my clients happens to run all the restaurants and concessions at the Rangers Ballpark, so I deliver things to the ballpark. I had never taken him with me before, but now that he is older I decided he was ready to really see what Mommy does all the time when she is on the computer. (Other than when I'm blogging or writing!)

The amazing thing is he really was helpful and even loaded up some of the boxes on the dolly and helped me carry one of them to the office. So as a treat afterward I showed him some of the ballpark and we got to go onto the field. He thought that was super cool!

After our work was done it was time to just go have some fun, so we headed off to see a movie. Today was the day that two movies came out in 3D that Jadon wanted to see, so he had to choose between Journey to the Center of the Earth 2 or Star Wars Episode I. He decided on Journey.

We were going to see the early movie, but the traffic delayed us in getting there on time, so we decided to play for a little bit at the park before the 5:30 movie started. It was a little chilly, but we still had fun. Here we are posing on the slide.

Jadon tries to make a serious face because he is on a special spy mission.

After the park it was time to go see our big movie. Jadon has always loved, loved, loved the first Journey to the Center of the Earth, so he was super excited to get to see this one. Can you tell?

Since we had missed the first movie time, we got there early for this one so we had plenty of time for silly pictures.  Don't you just love our cute 3D glasses?

We went to see the movie at the Movie Tavern, so we got to eat pizza and popcorn while we watched our movie, which by the way he loved!! After it was over, we went home, got our jammies on, and snuggled in our bed and watched part of a Scooby movie until we were both falling asleep.

So I'd say it was a pretty fabulous day!! I absolutely love spending time with Jadon and really getting to hear opinions from him on different things, which is difficult to do when you have a 4 year old and a 2 year old around. (They somehow always want to be heard.) It is very interesting because sometimes we do a good job of spending individual time with the kids, and other times we go several months and realize we haven't done that. But every time we do we realize just how important it is for the kids and for us. So I am on a mission again to try to do this more often. This week I did get a few hours with Kailey too taking her to story time, so I guess it will be Reece who is next.

I am so blessed to have had such a great day with Jadon!! Thanks Mom for watching Reece and Kailey, even if I am missing them now.
